I learned the importance of a strong work ethic and integrity at the age of sixteen while working at a full-service gas station -a business of a bygone era. Servicing customers quickly with a smile, while washing windows, checking oil and tire pressure were the norm. The goal was to make certain that all their needs were met before they left. My boss impressed upon me that customers had many choices and it was important to work hard to ensure that they chose to return again and again. Making customers feel welcome, building warm rapport and thanking them for the opportunity to serve them... and meaning it ...were all in a day's work. I grew to love and have lived this full-service business philosophy ever since.
